The short version: Tried and True is supported by our readers. When you buy something through a link on this site, we may earn a small commission from the brand, at no extra cost to you. That's how we keep the site running, and a portion of what we earn helps feed and shelter the rescued horses at Heart of Gold Sanctuary.

How it works

Tried and True doesn't sell products or hold inventory. Every product on this site is sold by the brand or retailer itself. Many of our links are affiliate links, which means we're part of affiliate programs run by those brands or by affiliate networks such as Impact, CJ Affiliate, FlexOffers and Awin. If you click a link and make a purchase, the brand pays us a percentage of the sale. The price you pay is exactly the same as if you went to the brand's website directly.

How we choose what we recommend

Commissions never decide what goes on this site. We only feature products we use ourselves, or that meet the standards we live by on our Sonoma County horse ranch:

  • Clean ingredients and materials: organic, natural fibers, no unnecessary chemicals
  • Soy-free wherever food is involved
  • Truly pasture-raised: meats only from open-pasture, grass-fed and grass-finished animals
  • Beeswax only for candles, never soy or synthetic fragrance
  • Brands we trust: fair labor, honest marketing, and made in the USA or ethically sourced where possible

If a product doesn't meet those standards, we don't list it, no matter what it pays. If we stop trusting a brand, we remove it.
